Caylab's Stanley visits Krispy Kreme

Today I went to Krispy Kreme. Did you know Krispy Kreme's first store was in Winston-Salem?  It is also where the headquarters are. I must say they have yummy doughnuts there!

Traveon's Flat Stanley is having a great time!!!!

Traveon's Flat Stanley is visiting with Mrs. Abby in Newport, NC! Mrs. Abby is Mrs. Rollins' mother-in-law!!  He has also taken some adventures with Mrs. Abby's son and daughter-in-law!!


On March 28th Flat Stanley left Newport, NC and began his adventure to visit Ohio. After riding in the car for about 4 hours, Stanley crossed the state line into Virginia.









Stanley was having a great trip! The trip to Ohio took him from NC to VA and then through West Virgina into PA. The next state to cross into would be Ohio! The trip took a lot longer than Stanley expected ( 13 hours) and he was sleeping by the time they crossed in Ohio.

On our way from North Carolina to Ohio, we passed near the Flight 93 National Memorial, so we went to see it.  Unfortunately, when we got there it was closed for the day, but we were able to get two pictures of Stanley at the entrance.   There was a lot of snow in the mountains of Pennsylvania, and it was really cold!

Stanley has been hanging out up here in Northeastern Ohio.  On Wednesday, April 3 I took him to the town where I work, Warren, which is in Trumbull County.

 I always liked this building because it looks like a castle.  It was built between 1895 and 1897. 

Trumbull County was very important in the Underground Railroad.  According to historians, Trumbull County had more routes than any other county in Ohio - 153 miles of them.  There was a road called the "Warren Ashtabula Turnpike" (now known as State Route 45) which went from Warren directly north to Ashtabula, a town on Lake Erie, where people could get on boats to travel across the lake to Canada.  Here's a picture of Stanley checking out a historical marker in a park in downtown Warren.  This marker is right on Rt. 45, the former Warren Ashtabula Turnpike.

ON THE
WARREN-ASHTABULA TURNPIKE

In the early days, Route 45 was one of the most active routes on the Underground Railroad.

Known as the Warren-Ashtabula Turnpike, from Wellsville, Ohio, to Ashtabula, Ohio, it ran along this important route. Many runaways found food, shelter and safety from the many sympathetic abolitionists in Trumbull County who stood strongly and boldly against slavery and were not afraid to offer assistance when needed.

Two of the most important factors that distinguished the Warren-Ashtabula Turnpike (Route 45) as a significant part of the history of the Underground Railroad is its direct link to Ashtabula Harbor and its many agents and friends that lived along the way that were not afraid to boldly stand and assist in the fugitive slaves' stand for freedom.

 

Serenity's Flat Stanley is visiting Edison, New Jersey!

Here is a picture of Flat Stanley reading a letter from my niece, Serenity Roman, who attends Eastern Wayne Elementary School.

I work at Lowe's Home Improvement at the paint department and indoor seasonal department. I help customers who are working on projects on their houses, businesses etc. Flat Stanley came to visit the store and meet some of my coworkers. This is Lowe's in Woodbridge, New Jersey . Flat Stanley has been to two towns in New Jersey--  Edison and Woodbridge.

Juana's Flat Stanley Has More Adventures...this time in Kentucky

Here it is another week, this week we traveled to Louisville, KY.  Did you know that the Ohio River runs through Louisville, KY?  It is also used to ferry coal and other goods through the area.  Flat Stanley and I were having dinner at the Galt House’s Magnolia Café and this is what we saw.

The coal flats are just beyond the trees lining the river.  

In this picture (to the right) they are going under the bridge and the barge is pushing them to the shore on the other side, which happens to be the state of Indiana.

We discovered something new as we parked to go to the Louisville Slugger Museum.  Did you know that the Happy Birthday song started out being a “Good Morning to All” song?  We parked in what is called the “Birthday Song Parking Lot” to celebrate the song.  

I wanted the last picture to stay very large so that you could read about the song.  Here’s another one that shows the ladies credited for the “Happy Birthday” song.

We are never too old to learn and it’s great to learn new things.  This was something new for me.

Our next stop was the Louisville Slugger Museum and boy was that fun.  Did you know that they make wooden baseball bats?  It’s not only a museum but an actually factory still today.    We have a picture of the outside of the Factory and Museum.  Isn’t that the largest bat that you have ever seen?  The factory tour is a must if you ever visit Louisville.

It’s quite the experience to see them cutting the wood and all of the work that goes into the process.

The next picture shows another aspect of Louisville, probably one of the most know facts.  It is the location of the Kentucky Derby that is held in May.  At the airport there is a statue of a Jockey riding a race horse.  So we had to have a picture of Flat Stanley and the Jockey on the horse.

The Kentucky Derby is held at Churchill Downs and Flat Stanley is just tagging along.

I hope you have enjoyed our Kentucky trip as much as we did.  This weekend we will spend time with Evelyn’s other daughter Amy and her two sons.  We hope to have more pictures and fun times.

Today I went to the Durham museum of Life and Science.  

I took a picture with a huge beatle!  I saw all kinds of insects.
